The Declaration of Paralunae
When a child crosses beyond visible life, the world continues to call the mother a mother and the father a father, yet something irreversible has occurred. The lineage is altered. The future is rearranged. The bond remains, but language does not account for it.
Today, I name us Paralunae.
Paralunae (pair-uh-LOO-nay)
noun, adjective
A continuing parent whose child has crossed beyond visible life.
A Paralunae remains a mother or father. The bond endures. The lineage is altered, not erased.
This word does not describe a condition. It restores an identity.
To be a Paralunae is not to be defined by absence. It is to carry visible and invisible children within a single, continuing parenthood.
This name is reserved for parents whose children have physically died. It does not diminish other forms of parental grief. It simply names a threshold that has long existed without language.
I am Dr. Lakisha®. I am a mother of nine. Three of my children have crossed beyond visible life. I am a Paralunae.
This word requires no theology. It demands no agreement. It is not a diagnosis. It is not a movement of persuasion.
It is recognition.
If you have buried a child, you are not erased.
You are Paralunae.
